How we study

I ,too, admit that throughout the years of studying, I felt that in some classes I only learned the art of surviving the subject. It is really necessary for us to contemplate on whether we are learning the subject matter, or just learning to pass the said subject. Many students are actually very smart... that is to learn techniques just to pass, bad or good.

It is important to realize that even though it may be hard to actually "learn" in class, putting our best shot is still the better way to pass. While both ways(just passing and giving our best) are a pass for us, giving our best shot would be better since you actually learn the topic. Also, giving our best shot would enable us to be more independent. While if we just learn to pass, the skills or knowledge that we gathered may be less than what those who gave their best have.

The author/maker of this meme has felt the difficulty in college life. In his/her description for this meme, it is written: "As a Senior in college  - Not sure if I am actually learning in class or… " . I can really relate to this feeling he/she had even if I am not yet a senior because every year it is hard to pass certain subjects. Though I know that everbody is capable of passing with enough perseverance and sacrifice, I feel that some subjects are over the top when it comes to requirements. If only those teachers could only feel what they impose on students, I believe that they would bring down or lessen the amount of work we need to do. But, I am still proud of myself that I passed every subject that I had in the past even if it was hard and tedious. I suggest all the students out there to not procrastinate so that you would not have to suffer and cram in the end because of all the requirements our teachers/mentors/professors give us. Good luck to all the students out there who have their finals!

Can we live without technology?

Our society has really change from how it used to be. Through the different ages that passed by, the changes are really evident. Today, we are blessed with technology's advantages in our lives. This short video clip shows kids of today trying the toys of 1980's. Would they be able to use it?

It is very obvious that the children are able to make use of the "toys" with little supervision. Though that is the case, they do not want to use those in a daily basis since it has less capabilities than our technology today. Also, those "toys" are very bulky and heavy compared to what we use today.

But this video does not only showcase kids trying to use the earlier technologies. It also shows that we should be thankful of what we have been blessed. Everyday, many people complain about life being tough. But, with this we know now that we are very privileged to live an easier life compared to the people in the 1980s or far more before. It also implies the thought of being simple. With what we have today, we should really take into consideration what we only need to use.

The video is very fun to watch and amusing. The kids had fun and learned what their mother used to play back in her time. I believe that in the near future, kids at that time would also have no idea about what we use in the present time. So, take advantage and use our technology wisely.

Media as means to get "health advisories"

Its surprising to see how the media is used to inform us of different health facts. Kapamilya On-Guard is an example of which these health advisories are spread to the "madla". Filipinos are shown with short clips about certain health facts. Usually, they create their health advisories in line with whats happening in the country, so it has become really helpful.

Lately, the Philippines has experienced the second wave of habagat. Many of the roads and houses became flooded and so the advisory of Kapamily On-Guard reminds us of the possible illness we can get  from this. The Department of Health says that we should not forego the simple complaints that the people usually experience. It may develop into a more serious disease. Also, the Filipino should also remember to keep out of the flood at most if possible. The water from floods may be contaminated, thus water-borne diseases are prone to be inflicted on those people who walk on this. But, if it cannot be avoided, be sure to protect yourself on the flood. If you happen to experience symptoms of certain respiratory and/or water-borne diseases, be sure to consult a doctor and drink the prescribed medicine. For a surely, disease-free period this rainy season.

Filipinos should put their health in the number one spot for their concern. This short clip from Kapamilya on-guard is only one way of telling us to take that in mind. We should not jeopardize our lives. Truthfully, what is more important than our lives?

Kids React to 2012 Olympics

As I was watching TheFineBros videos in Youtube, I saw this video listed with other videos. I watched it and was surprised about how kids reacted to The Olympics(2012). It is amazing how simple kids think about it. 

As usual, the video was first shown to the kids. Afterwards, the Fine brothers ask them questions about the video the kids watched. What is it that they watched, do they know it, what they think about it or what is its purpose. Basically, some kids knew about The Olympics and some do not. This was not the fact that surprised me but, the fact that the kids knew what the true purpose of The Olympics is. One girl said that it is where different people meet and play games(sports). Another kid, a boy, said that it is the only good thing we do besides the fights that constantly happens. the kids also said that instead of money, medals are given to promote being a good sport. For them it is an important event were people, who do not know each other, play with their best ability and become amazed with each others talent.

This video can pose as an eyeopener for the adults who think too much about being in power. It is very evident in the kids that they do not see The Olympics as a contest. Like our lives, we should keep it simple and live our lives the most fun way we can think of. We may have to reflect on the true purposes of the things we do. We should be like the kids who live their lives with ease and believe that all of us have our good sides.

Pugad Baboy June 4 Comic Strip in Inquirer Controversy

-As a former Kulasa

This specific episode of the Pugad Baboy by Po Medina Jr. comic strip has been in the news for its controversial content. Actually, because of the complaints from readers of Inquirer, the comic strip has been suspended and now the writer has left Inquirer. 

I have caught on the news about this specific episode of the Pugad Baboy comic strip from my previous school's facebook group. Since I am also from St. Scholastica's Academy, I cannot ignore the message implied by this. But what I am more interested in is the specificity of the author authenticity of the message. Why was St. Scho singled out from all schools ?

I believe that in whatever school we go, there will always be homosexuals. The society has now change. So why was St. Scho the one chosen to pose as an example? The message may be about homosexuals but the school was pointed out so specifically. If he wanted to relay a message about it why not generalize the term?  

I cannot deny the statement of the author. As a Scholastican, I can only argue that not all Kulasa are homosexuals. I am a living proof of that. The Benedictine Sisters also doesn't allow the kulasas to be homosexuals. They are very strict about our attire, walk, and even our haircut. My point is that the comic strip is partly correct and also partly wrong. 

This comic strip caught my attention because of the undeniable fact that we now face. There are now homosexuals around us. Now that the issue was raised it cannot be ignored. But afterwards we can all move on and learn a lesson from it.

I just stepped into the next level of education and I made this blog to start my academic year right!

If you're wondering, I am Jennifer, a Freshman Engineering student from Manila. Coming from an all-girls school, I am still amazed by the new environment in my block. Most of my classmates or what we call "block" mates are boys. It was very shocking at first but thankfully I adjusted well. 

So... My friends call me Doe or Doe-Doe. They say I am very friendly and approachable. I am sixteen years old turning seventeen years old next month(Yey!).

Making this blog really dug up my storage of ideas. I had to name my blog. I did not have an idea what to name it. It was so hard. I tried to look into other blogs, search in the web, ask my relatives and refer to the dictionary. In the end, I chose the title EMazing. The name came across my mind because of my block, EM. I combined our block's name with the word amazing because we really are amazing people. Imagine choosing engineering as our course, isn't that amazing enough? 

My blog, from its name, would be filled of things I found amazing. From articles, news, video clips, posters, shows to quotes. I hope that my posts amazes you! And, if you feel my blog is worthy enough, you can share it to others!
